Mercedes Benz B Class Overview
The Mercedes-Benz B-Class started the trend of very-compact luxury vehicles in India. Mercedes-Benz had been toying with the idea of introducing more affordable models under the C-Class sedan, but hesitated as customers could have reacted adversly. In 2012, Mercedes-Benz took the plunge and introduce the B-Class as the first compact luxury car in its lineup. The positive response to car prompted the manufacturer to then launch the A-, CLA-,GLA-Class etc.
The B-Class is essentially a bigger version of the A-Class hatchback but it is marketed as a ‘sports tourer’. The comact-MPV like dimesions of the car show though in the design inside-out. The exterior design is not as striking as the other compact offerings from the company like the A-, CLA- or GLA-Class, but there are signature MB touches like the LED headlights with the DRLs, sculpted body and faux-exhaust-like design on the rear bumper. However, what tops the list of exterior updates is the matt iridium silver garnish on the front radiator grille.
Mercedes Benz B Class Interiors
The cabin of the B-Class looks more upmarket now, thanks largely to the designers picking up some stuff from the new C-Class’ parts bin. Things like the new steering wheel and sporty instrument cluster come from the entry-level rear-wheel drive Merc while the infotainment screen is a new 7-inch unit with a higher resolution display, it also gets navigation and runs on the latest OS. The finish of the cabin is top notch, exuding a feel of luxury and the vehicle also gets front parking sensors and a reverse parking camera.
Other equipment includes 7 airbags, panoramic sunroof and the usual safety systems we have come to expect from Mercedes-Benz. There are no changes to the interior dimensions and as has been the case with the B, there is ample amount of room inside the cabin to seat four people in comfort. The boot space is massive but hindered by the position of the spare wheel.

The petrol powered B-Class can go from standstill to a 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds and go on up to a top speed of 200 km/h. Meanwhile, the diesel powered B-Class can do the 0-100 km/h run in 9.8-seconds and onto a top speed of 210 km/h. The toque-y nature of the petrol motor and bigger power band helps it accelerate faster, the more than 100kg weight deficit also helps, this does not mean that the diesel is a slouch. The dual-clutch transmission is good to potter around town (it is not jerky at low speeds) and is responsive when you need it to be.
Whatever variant of the car you choose, it always starts in ECO mode for maximum fuel-efficiency, the claimed efficiency figures for the 1.6-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel are 14.8 km/l and 19.7 km/l respectively.

Mercedes Benz B Class Driving
The Mercedes B-Class continues with the same 205/55/16 tyres as before which works well for the ride quality of the vehicle. Further, the German automaker had tweaked the suspension of the car for improved ride quality on the Edition 1 model, the same has been carried over, resulting in very good ride quality. It is still stiffly sprung but that’s only evident when you go too fast over bumps. Handling is good with body movement being well under control. The steering too weighs up decently at speed but this car carries some height and isn’t a corner craver like its younger sibling, the A-Class. Apply car loan for Mercedes Benz B Class at Fincarz.
