Hyundai Xcent Overview
Hyundai’s first offering for the compact sedan segment in India was the Accent Viva which was launched very long back. As the market hadn’t matured properly then, the Accent Viva didn’t sell in good numbers despite the regular Accent selling really well back then. The Korean automaker then introduced the Xcent in 2014, which is based on the Grand i10 and this compact sedan has been a good seller for Hyundai. The vehicle has now got a mid-life facelift following the Grand i10 so let us find out what additional things does the Xcent now offer. Hyundai Xcent price range in India is between 6,15,584 to 9,60,348, check for detail pricing of Xcent in Carzprice
Hyundai Xcent Design
The new styling is the most valid point on why you will appreciate the Xcent facelift more. Hyundai has tried to give the compact sedan its unique identity. Not only does the new compact sedan looks entirely different from the pre-facelift model but it also looks different than the recently introduced Grand i10 hatchback as well. Towards the front, the Xcent gets a differently styled grille, while the hatchback comes with mesh grille the sedan gets Horizontal bars. This type of grille pattern can also be seen in some other Hyundai sedans as well like the Elantra. The front bumper also has been completely redesigned as well. The headlamp design also is slightly different from the hatchback Counterpart as well which has helped give the Xcent its own unique identity. With all these changes the Xcent now looks big and more like a proper sedan.
Hyundai Xcent Cabin
Inside the Xcent’s cabin, nothing has been changed and the reason for not doing so is very simple. This one too bets on great space and features like its sibling. These seats are adequately cushioned and offer great under thigh, lumbar and back support. The front row seats are extremely comfortable. Even the rear row seats are decent in providing adequate comfort. For taller passengers, the knee room around driver’s seat can feel a bit congested. In the rear section, the legroom and headroom is superb. The rear AC vents make it even more comfortable for the rear passengers. All four windows drop down completely. The driver’s window has an auto drop down function too where the glass goes down at a single click. The entertainment system in the Grand i10 is very impressive with amazing audio playback quality, it has four speakers on each doors. Music can be played via the 2-Din integrated entertainment system. It has an optional USB-AUX-in option too. The USB is located at a very convenient position near the central storage space.
The internal trims are completed in 2 tone beige and black colours. The black makes it look premium while the beige contrasts it. The dashboard sees a strong beige panel while the door trims are primarily done in black with only the lower portion being beige. The glove box has enormous space. It also doubles as a cold storage option. Even in the central console there are numerous storage pockets. It gets two different types of cup holders on the central area with an intermittent rectangular stowage space. The front door pockets are useful too as they offer space to keep essential documents as well as a litre class bottle.Even the rear door gets a generous door pocket. There is also a back pocket behind the co-driver seat for keeping magazines but the same is not given behind the driver’s seat. The rear boot space too is very grand in nature and can pack in amazing quantities of bags. This space can be increased by collapsing the rear sear bench. Hyundai Xcent Performance
The Hyundai Xcent is offered with both petrol and diesel engines. Talking about the petrol engine first, no changes have been made to the 1.2-litre Kappa VTVT unit. It is mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a dated 4-speed automatic transmission and produces 83 PS of power at 6000 RPM and 114 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM. Throttle response is good and power delivery is linear. The top-end performance isn’t the best but the low-end and mid-range are very good. The NVH levels are also fantastic. The ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency is 20.14 km/l and 17.36 km/l for MT and AT respectively but in real world conditions, you can expect 10-14 km/l from the MT and 9-13 km/l from the AT.
The diesel engine has been upgraded from the older 1.1-litre unit to a larger 1.2-litre U2 CRDI unit which now produces 75 PS of power at 4000 RPM and 190 Nm of torque from 1750-2250 RPM. The engine has been tuned very nicely and turbo lag has been negated effectively. The engine has a good surge of power right from 1600-1700 RPM and continues till 3500-4000 RPM and the oil-burner feels very peppy. The engine is quite noisy though. The 5-speed gearbox is a charm and gearshifts are smooth. The ARAI-claimed efficiency is 25.4 km/l and you can easily expect 17-22 km/l in real world conditions.
Hyundai Xcent Rideing
In terms of handling, the Xcent does not disappoint. It manages to hold in tight corners without losing control. Even at high speeds on a straight line, it holds on to the road with great confidence. The driving dynamics of the Xcent is impressive. The length of the car has been increased but then that has not changed the way this one handles. The suspension offers a dampened ride and thus even on rough roads, the Xcent performs good.Even while manoeuvring it in the city, it feels very convenient. It also gets a reverse parking sensor affixed on the rear view mirror though; it is not convenient to use because of the daylight reflections falling on the rear view mirror.
Hyundai Xcent Safety
Hyundai has taken care of the safety passengers of its occupants inside and decided to make both driver and passenger side airbags as standard across the range. Unfortunately, the Xcent does not get ABS as standard across the range and is available only in the top SX and SX(O) trim.

Hyundai Xcent Verdict
The Hyundai Xcent is a well-rounded compact sedan because it offers excellent efficiency with the diesel engine, good performance, equipment and comfort. It is backed by Hyundai’s huge after-sales network. The Xcent doesn’t really have any major downsides except the handling part and is a very good contender in the compact sedan segment and the pricing of the car is attractive enough too.
